Chemical Storage Policy

All chemicals must be stored in original labeled containers. Spray bottle contents must be identified with a label. All chemicals must be stored in non-food production areas. Further, all chemicals must be stored by category and apart from one another.

Employees should check the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for information on storing new chemicals. SDS have replaced the older Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) under OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). In the event a leak of unknown origin is discovered in the storage room the employee should alert the manager as soon as possible to determine the level of danger and whether an evacuation is necessary. Any such incident or near miss should be reported to management and documented internally; only work-related injuries or illnesses meeting OSHA's recordability criteria are entered on the OSHA 300 Log.

General information, not legal advice. Treat this as a drafting starting point, not a finished policy — employment law varies by jurisdiction and changes often, so have a licensed attorney tailor it to your situation before you rely on it.
