School Visitation Policy

Where required by state law (for example, North Carolina General Statute 95-28.3, which applies to all employers regardless of size), employees who are a parent, guardian, or person standing in loco parentis of a school-aged child are entitled to up to four hours of unpaid leave per year to attend or otherwise be involved in their child's school, preschool, or child care facility activities, including conferences with teachers or administrators. This leave applies to all eligible employees, not only exempt employees. This time will not be counted toward any other leave and will not be compensated if unused. The Company may require at least 48 hours' written notice of the leave and written verification of attendance from the school. The Company will not discharge, demote, or otherwise retaliate against an employee for requesting or taking this leave. Because school-visitation leave laws vary significantly by state (in required hours, employer size thresholds, and notice rules), confirm the specific requirements applicable to each state in which you employ staff.

General information, not legal advice. Treat this as a drafting starting point, not a finished policy — employment law varies by jurisdiction and changes often, so have a licensed attorney tailor it to your situation before you rely on it.
